PATHS (Promoting Alternative THinking Strategies) Curriculum is a school-based, universal prevention program with information and activities for use with parents. It has been evaluated in mainstream education, as well as with a variety of special needs students (deaf, hearing-impaired, learning disabled, emotionally disturbed, mildly mentally delayed, and gifted). The program includes lessons, for example on identifying and labeling, expressing and managing feelings, and training for teachers.
PATHS promotes emotional and social competencies and reduces aggression and behavior problems. Rigorous evaluations demonstrate significant improvements in self-control, understanding and recognition of emotions and conflict-resolution strategies. These gains translate into a reduction in anxiety and depressive symptoms as well as in conduct problems, including aggression.
PATHS is a Blueprints Violence Prevention Model Program.
